BNC Food Forest: New Volunteer Orientation Day
Interested in volunteering with the Boston Nature Center Food Forest team? Join the stewardship team for a new volunteer orientation session on the first Wednesday of every month at 6pm to sundown at the food forest.
The first 30 minutes of this session will include a tour of the site, introduction to how the stewardship team is organized, and ways to get involved. After that, we’ll get our hands dirty with some projects in the food forest. Projects may include wedding, watering, planting... and eating plants!
All supplies including gloves will be provided. Please bring water and some clothes you don't mind getting dirty.
All skill levels are welcome. No registration necessary!

GRAND OPENING: Maple Street Food Forest
Join us as we celebrate the grand opening of the Maple Street Food Forest, a new public edible park in Grove Hall, Dorchester, on June 28th, 2025! This special event is a collaboration between Boston Food Forest Coalition, Sonoma Maple Schuyler Tenants Association, and Project R.I.G.H.T.
Come enjoy a day of connection, delicious food, and hands-on activities! We’ll kick things off with a welcoming ceremony, followed by interactive workshops (Soil and Composting with Eru Kyeyune-Nyombi and Herbalism and Wild Foods with Alex Klein). There will be plenty of opportunities to meet your neighbors and to get involved with the food forest as it grows.

Plant Walk Workshop
Join local herbalist and lover of botany Alex Klein for a workshop focused on plant identification. We'll walk around the food forest at the Boston Nature Center identifying various plant species, their reproductive structures and modes of dispersal, as well as potential uses in the landscape, kitchen, and medicine cabinet.
This workshop will be a sort of Botany 101 from the perspective of an herbalist/avid forager/gardener. Bring a magnifying glass/loupe if you got one!

Join the stewardship team at the Uphams Corner Food Forest in Dorchester for a celebratory spring cleanup session!
All are welcome, whether you’d like to pitch in on tidying the food forest, or if you’d prefer to sit in the shade of the trees and simply enjoy the neighborly camaraderie.
No registration necessary.

Spring Foraging Walk
Join us on a stroll where you’ll gain basic skills to identify some tasty wild edible plants common in urban settings within the Greater Boston Area. We’ll focus on ethical and safe foraging practices as well as culinary and medicinal applications.
This walk will be led by Maxwell Francke, the new Garden Programs Coordinator with The Trustees. Max has a background in sustainable agriculture and natural resources from UMass Amherst, and is a passionate nature explorer, hiker, and forager.
This program is available to all — no experience necessary — on a sliding scale fee.
This event is free for Leland gardeners and Boston Food Forest stewards, who can RSVP by emailing alice@bostonfoodforest.org.

Plant Identification Workshop
Join local herbalist and lover of botany Alex Klein for a workshop focused on plant identification. We'll walk around Fairy Hollow, identifying various plant species, their reproductive structures and modes of dispersal, as well as potential uses in the landscape, kitchen, and medicine cabinet.
This workshop will be a sort of Botany 101 from the perspective of an herbalist/avid forager/gardener.
Bring a magnifying glass if you've got one! You might also want to bring a lightweight portable chair.

BNC Food Forest: New Volunteer Orientation Day
Interested in volunteering with the Boston Nature Center Food Forest team? Join the stewardship team for a new volunteer orientation session on the first Wednesday of every month at 6pm to sundown at the food forest.
The first 30 minutes of this session will include a tour of the site, introduction to how the stewardship team is organized, and ways to get involved. After that, we’ll get our hands dirty with some projects in the food forest. Projects may include wedding, watering, planting... and eating plants!
All supplies including gloves will be provided. Please bring water and some clothes you don't mind getting dirty.
All skill levels are welcome. No registration necessary!

Old West Church Food Forest Weekly Work Day
Join the stewardship team of the Old West Church Food Forest for their regular Saturday Volunteer Workdays, held each Saturday from 10-12 pm (except for holiday weekends).
Projects may include tending to the annual crop beds, maintaining the pollinator garden, pruning fruits trees, planting, harvesting, and more.
All are welcome!

Savin Hill Wildlife Garden Spring Cleanup
Spring is on its way to the Savin Hill Wildlife Garden! The daffodils are in bloom, other plants are starting to wake up from winter, and there is even a shed on the site now!
Join the stewardship team of this park for their Spring Cleanup Day on Wednesday, April 23 at 6:30pm. Gloves, rakes, and trash bags will be provided. We’ll be picking up deadwood and large branches that have come down in our winter storms and moving them up to the top level to build up our barrier wall, as well as any rubbish/trash that may have blown onto the site.
Even if you can't stay for long or can't clean up, feel free to drop by and say hello. We look forward to seeing you!

Egleston Community Orchard Season Opener
Interested in getting involved with the Egleston Community Orchard in Jamaica Plain?
Join the stewardship team, volunteers, and neighbors of this food forest garden on April 16th at 6pm for the kick-off meeting of this season! You can expect to meet other folks engaged in this space, learn about and contribute to ambitions/plans for the year, and get started on a few projects in the space.
No registration is necessary!

Interested in getting involved with the Edgewater Food Forest? Join the Edgewater stewardship team for the first monthly work day of the season on May 3rd from 2-4pm!
No registration or experience is required. Just show up ready to work on a variety of tasks like weeding, harvesting, tree care, and more!
